Dr. Bitner is born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to William and Anna Bitner.
1956
Dr. Bitner marries Wylla Mae Bowman and becomes a teacher at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in New Jersey.
1958
Dr. Bitner is promoted to assistant superintendent of schools in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District.
1961
Dr. Bitner becomes the assistant superintendent of schools in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District in New York.
1963
Dr. Bitner becomes the superintendent of schools in Glens Falls City School District in New York.
1964
Dr. Bitner receives the Dean John W. Withers Memorial Award from the New York University Alumni Association.
1971
Dr. Bitner serves as the president of the Association for the Advancement of International Education in the United States Department of State.
1972
Dr. Bitner becomes the associate commissioner of education in the New York State Education Department.
1976
Dr. Bitner becomes the senior vice president of the First National Bank of Glens Falls and receives the Outstanding School Administrator Award in the state of New York.
1977
Dr. Bitner is appointed chief executive officer and president of the First National Bank of Glens Falls.
1980
Dr. Bitner is appointed chief executive officer and president of Evergreen Bancorp, Inc.
1984
Dr. Bitner is appointed president of the Independent Bankers Association of New York State and serves as chairman and president of the Glens Falls Family YMCA.
1988
Dr. Bitner volunteers with the Lake Champlain Cancer Research Organization, Inc. in Burlington, Vermont.
1989
Dr. Bitner is appointed president of the New York State Bankers Association.
1991
Dr. Bitner receives the Distinguished Service Award from the Independent Bankers Association of New York State.

Dr. Bitner is appointed director of New York State Health Care Trustees.
