Born to Franklin Dunn and Martha (Montgomery) S. in South Bend, IN.

1957

Earns a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University.

1957

Teaches as an assistant instructor at the University of Maryland.

1958

Serves with the US Army through 1960.

1960

Becomes an administrative assistant for the South Bend Tribune through 1966.

1966

Becomes a circulation consultant for Imperial Valley Press in El Centro, CA.

1967

Marries Kathryn Joan Foley.

1970

Becomes president of the Bloomington Boys’ Club through 1971.

1970

Becomes chairman of the board of Schurz Communications, Inc. and continues to serve in this role.

1979

Serves on the board of directors United Way Monroe County through 1981.

1986

Is a member of the Indiana University Foundation and has served on the board of directors since 1986.

1989

Serves as president of the Hoosier State Press Association and does so again in 1997.

1992

Serves on the board of directors of the Newspaper Association America through 1995 and again from 2002 to 2008.

1995

Is a member of the Inter-American Press Association; served on the board of directors since 1995 and is an honorary president for life.

Receives an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
