Mr. Flournoy is born in Raleigh, North Carolina to William Louis and Flossie Flournoy.

1964

Mr. Flournoy studies at Gardner-Webb University.

1969

Mr. Flournoy receives a Bachelor of Science in recreation and parks administration from North Carolina State University.

1971

Mr. Flournoy becomes a consultant to the City of Raleigh at the College of Design of North Carolina State University.

1972

Mr. Flournoy receives a Master of Liberal Arts from North Carolina State University.

1972

Mr. Flournoy becomes a community planner in the Wake County Planning Department of the Wake County Government.

1974

Mr. Flournoy serves as chairman of the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

1976

Mr. Flournoy receives the Planning Award from the North Carolina chapter of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

1980

Mr. Flournoy becomes the environmental analysis program manager for the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs in the North Carolina Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (now North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality).

1983

Mr. Flournoy becomes manager of the North Carolina Conservation Tax Credit Certification Program in the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

2002

Mr. Flournoy becomes a senior conservation specialist for the Office of Conservation and Community Affairs in the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

2005

Mr. Flournoy is appointed director of the Conservation Incentive Program for National Resources Planning and Conservation in the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality.

2007

Mr. Flournoy retires from his profession.

2008

Mr. Flournoy is appointed president of the Triangle Greenways Council.

2009

Mr. Flournoy receives the DESIGNsmith Award for Visionary Graduate at the 60th Anniversary Ceremony of the College of Design of the North Carolina State University.

2010

Mr. Flournoy receives the Le Gasse Medal of Honor for Contributions to Management and Conservancy Natural Resources and Public Landscapes from the American Society of Landscape Architects.

2011

Mr. Flournoy serves on the Fellowship Nominating Committee of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

2012

Mr. Flournoy is appointed chairman of the Government Affairs Committee of the Conservation Trust for North Carolina.

2014

Mr. Flournoy receives the Community Service Honors Award and the Raleigh Environmental Legacy Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects.

2017

Mr. Flournoy is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who.
