Receives a Bachelor of Arts from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.

Marries Marion Kathryn Keeney.

1960

Receives a Bachelor of Divinity from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana.

Serves as program director of the Mennonite Central Committee of the Mennonite Church in Algiers, Algeria.

1962

Becomes peace secretary for the General Conference Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas.

1965

Becomes director of Africa and the Middle East for the General Conference Mennonite Church.

Becomes chairman of the General Board of Directors of the General Conference Mennonite Church.
