Stephen Franks is born in Biltmore, North Carolina to Thomas Hendricks and Margaret Franks.

1952

After completing undergraduate studies at Duke University, Mr. Franks receives a Bachelor of Arts.

1955

Continuing his studies at the University of North Carolina, Mr. Franks adds a Bachelor of Laws to his qualifications.

1955

Continuing his studies at the University of North Carolina, Mr. Franks adds a Bachelor of Laws to his qualifications.

1956

Mr. Franks serves as a commander judge advocate general in the U.S. Navy.

1962

Mary Elizabeth Volbeda and Stephen Franks are married in La Jolla, California, and they have three children, Bruce, Andrea, and Craig.

1964

Mr. Franks is admitted to practice in the state of California.

1964

In the City Attorney Office of San Bernardino, California, Mr. Franks serves as a deputy city attorney.

1966

Mr. Franks is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States.

1966

Mr. Franks serves as counsel to the mayor in the Mayor’s Office of San Bernardino.

Mr. Franks serves as a federal aid coordinator in the City of San Bernardino.

1969

Mr. Franks serves as a lobbyist for San Bernardino County at the state legislature in Sacramento, California.

1981

Moving on from government work, Mr. Franks goes into to private practice in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

1988

Mr. Franks becomes a judge in the District Court of North Carolina.

2002

After 47 years of practicing law, Mr. Franks retires from district court judgeship and begins semi-retired practice of law.
