1935

Dr. Boehm is born in Santa Monica, California in Edward G. and Kathryn G. Boehm.

1955

Dr. Boehm becomes a programmer and analyst at General Dynamics in San Diego, California.

1957

Dr. Boehm receives a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Harvard University.

1959

Dr. Boehm becomes a programmer, section head, and (1971) head of the Information Science Department at Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, California.

1961

Dr. Boehm receives a Master of Arts in mathematics from the University of California Los Angeles and marries Sharla Perrine.

1964

Dr. Boehm receives a Doctor of Philosophy in mathematics from the University of California Los Angeles.

1973

Dr. Boehm becomes Director of Software Research, Division Chief Engineer, and (1987) chief scientist at TRW Defense Systems Group in Redondo Beach, California.

1981

Dr. Boehm authors “Software Engineering Economics.”

1989

Dr. Boehm is appointed director of the Information Science and Technology Office of the Defense Advanced Research Agency in the Department of Defense in Arlington, Virginia.

1992

Dr. Boehm is appointed director of the Software and Computer Technology Office under the director of Defense Research and Engineering in the Department of Defense.

1992

Dr. Boehm is appointed TRW professor of software engineering, director of the Center for Software Engineering and Distinguished Professor (2015) at the University of Southern California.

1997

Dr. Boehm is appointed chairman of the board of visitors of Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.

2000

Dr. Boehm is presented with an honorary Doctor of Science in computer science from the University of Massachusetts.

2000

Dr. Boehm receives the H.D. Mills Award from the IEEE.

2005

Dr. Boehm serves as a visiting professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

2009

Dr. Boehm becomes director of research and chief scientist in the Department of Defense Systems Engineering Research Center.

2011

Dr. Boehm is presented with an honorary Doctor of Science in computer science and software engineering from the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

2015

Dr. Boehm receives the Nancy Mead Lifetime Achievement Award in Software Engineering Education.

2018

Dr. Boehm becomes an honorary chair professor at Hangzhou Dianzi University in Hangzhou, China.
