1959

Mr. Handy serves in the U.S. Navy for three years.

1969

Mr. Handy receives a Bachelor of Science in history and political science from Portland State University.

1971

Mr. Handy receives a Master of Arts in American diplomatic history from Portland State University.

1972

Mr. Handy is appointed director of Continuing Education and Community Services at the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas.

1975

Mr. Handy is appointed director of International Programs at the College of the Mainland.

1976

Mr. Handy founds the Gulf Coast World Affairs Council, serving as executive director.

1984

Mr. Handy becomes executive director of Houston the World Trade Association.

1988

Mr. Handy serves as president of Development Resources International in Houston, Texas.

1992

Mr. Handy becomes executive director of the Brazoria County Historical Museum in Angleton, Texas.

1993

Mr. Handy is appointed chairman of the Stephen F. Austin Statewide Bicentennial Celebration Commission by Texas governor Ann Richards.
