1949

Born in Altadena, California to John G. and Anita Cervantes.

1971

Receives a Bachelor of Arts in English from California State College, Los Angeles (now California State University).

1972

Becomes a fifth grade teacher for Valle Lindo School District in South El Monte, California.

1975

Becomes a bilingual teacher for Valle Lindo School District.

1976

Becomes a third grade teacher for Valle Lindo School District.

1978

Receives a Master of Arts in education from California State College, Los Angeles.

1979

Becomes a kindergarten and third grade teacher for El Rancho Unified School District in Pico Rivera, California.

1984

Becomes a second grade teacher for El Rancho Unified School District.

1985

Receives a Master of Arts in Chicano studies from California State College, Los Angeles.

1989

Becomes a fourth grade teacher for El Rancho Unified School District.

1990

Becomes a first grade teacher, and works in the Spanish as a second language gifted and talented education program.

1990

Chairs the El Rancho Unified School District.

1995

Becomes a fifth grade teacher for El Rancho Unified School District.

1996

Establishes the New World scholarship at California State University.

2010

Retires from elementary education.

2019

Receives the San Gabriel Mission High School Alumni Recognition Award.
