Born to Zoltan and Ilona (Leon) Vamos in Budapest, Hungary.

1945

Survives the Holocaust with his mother by hiding in the countryside and in burnt out Budapest buildings.

1947

Immigrates to the United States.

1960

Earns a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, and is commissioned ensign USNR.

1961

Serves as a US Naval Control of Shipping Officer in Reykjavík, Iceland.

1962

Appointed Officer in Charge of Radar Site H-2 Station in northeast Iceland; becomes a lieutenant Junior grade.

1962

Is an engineering geologist for Geotechnics and Resources Inc. in White Plains, New York.

1963

Is an engineering geologist in Snowy Mountain, Australia.

1964

Appointed a full lieutenant with the US Navy.

1965

Earns a Master of Science in urban planning from Columbia University.

1965

Works as an associate transportation planner for the New York State Department of Public Works (DOT) in Albany, NY.

1965

Marries Maria G.A. Vanderweerd on June 30.

1968

Is the director of planning for New York State Parks in Albany.

1974

Is the assistant commissioner for the environment for New York State Parks.

1980

Is the deputy commissioner for planning and development for New York State Parks in Albany.

1993

Retires as a state agency administrator.

1994

Is an associate of Hudson Group LLC, Planning and Engineering Consultants, until he retires from consulting in 2016.
