Dr. Pitchumoni is born in Madura, India to Sankara Iyer and Jaya Iyer.

1959

Dr. Pitchumoni receives a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Trivandrum Medical College in India.

1961

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes an intern at Trivandrum Medical College.

1964

Dr. Pitchumoni marries Prema Iyer.

1965

Dr. Pitchumoni receives a Doctor of Medicine from Trivandrum Medical College.

1967

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes an assistant professor of medicine at Kottayam Medical College in India.

1967

Dr. Pitchumoni immigrates to the United States, where he begins a residency in gastroenterology at Yale University.

1969

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes an assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College.

1972

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes a gastroenterologist in private practice in New York City.

1975

Dr. Pitchumoni is promoted to associate professor of preventive and social medicine at New York Medical College.

1980

Dr. Pitchumoni is promoted to full professor of clinical medicine at New York Medical College.

1980

Dr. Pitchumoni is appointed chief of the Section of Gastroenterology at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in New York City, New York.

1985

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes the associate director of medicine at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.

1986

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes a professor of community and preventative medicine at New York Medical College.

1987

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes the program director of internal medicine at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.

1992

Dr. Pitchumoni becomes director of medicine at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.

1994

Dr. Pitchumoni receives the Oration Award from the Thangavelu Endowment.

2002

Dr. Pitchumoni is name Chairman Emeritus in the Department of Medicine at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center.

2002

Dr. Pitchumoni is appointed chief of the Division of Gastroenterology at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

2018

Dr. Pitchumoni authors the third edition of “Netters Gastroenterology” and he receives the Physician Appreciation Award from St. Peters University Hospital.
