Born to Elton and Carol Peterson in Kenmare, ND.

1972

Earns a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and secondary mathematics from Minot State University.

1998

Achieves a Master of Arts in teaching mathematics education from Northern State University.

1998

Is a teacher at the education department of Northern State University until 1999.

1999

Undertakes doctoral coursework at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, until 2004.

2002

Achieves an institutional endorsement in educational administration.

2004

Is a professor of mathematics at Chadron State College until 2020.

2005

Is a participant in a pilot program for the Nebraska Mathematics Professional Development Series until 2020.

2009

Obtains a Doctor of Philosophy in curriculum and instruction for mathematics education from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

2010

Establishes a volunteer after-school math tutoring program for grades K-8 at Chadron State College.

2013

Leads first Family Math Night, adding additional schools in 2017 and 2019.

2018

Receives the Milton M. Beckman Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics.

2020

Receives the Teaching Excellence Award from the Nebraska State College System.

2020

Is granted emeritus status by Chadron State College.
