1952

Serves as a member of the United States Navy Reserve (USNR) until 1982.

1956

Marries his wife, Janis.

1962

Earns a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Oregon State University (OSU).

1963

Earns a Master of Science in structural engineering from OSU; Is a structural engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until 1973.

1969

Is a structural engineer.

1973

Serves as a supervising structural engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until 1989.

1979

Is the chief structural engineer for Portland on behalf of GM-15 until 1989.

1982

Retires from the USNR at the rank of commander.

1984

Serves as the engineering director of the navigation lock system for the Three Gorges Dam in China.

1986

Serves as a commanding member of the International Lake Superior Board of Control until 1987; Authors and presents on “Protective Structural Systems” in London.
