A Timeline of Professional Milestones

1950

Born in Monango, ND, a small town in Dickey County that is now a ghost town; Is baptized into the Kingdom of God.

1955

Moves to Fargo, ND, where his mother could learn to be a beautician and he could start elementary school.

1957

Attends Ellendale Public School District through 1969, with one semester at the University of North Dakota Ellendale Branch, now Trinity Bible Institute.

1970

Serves in the U.S. Army as a First Sergeant until 1990, in personnel admin. and mgmt. with overseas services in Vietnam, Germany (2 tours) and Korea.

1974

Marries the love of his life, Shirley Ann Meyer, together having two daughters, Elizabeth Julia and Ruth Karen, and one grandchild, Jordan Matthew McGowan.

1990

Receives numerous Armed Services Awards and Service Medals and Ribbons, with the Meritorious Service Medal as the highest decoration.

1990

Is employed by Dakota County, MN as a mail clerk/janitor and micrographics/customer service representative.

1992

Earns an Associate of Science degree in business administration and management from Inver Hills Community College.

2003

Is the All-American District Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars, to include various elected and apportioned positions at Post and District Level.

2011

Receives Community and Educational Service Awards, including Spirit of Hastings, Good Neighbor, Employer Support, Friends of Education and Bernie McCoy.

2019

Becomes the founder and chief executive officer of Foss and Swanson, The People’s Center.

2020

His mother, Esther “Grace” Wiederrich, a beautician, departs to be with his father, Warren Engrav, who departed in 2013, a railroad station agent, in heaven.

2021

Maintains membership with Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America and American Veterans.

2021

Is a collaborator, synchronizer and supporter within the city and community through United Way of Hastings and Hastings Total Life Center.
