A Timeline of Professional Milestones

1932

Mr. Pfund is born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to Harry William and Marie Pfund.

1954

Mr. Pfund graduates cum laude from Amherst College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in history.

1959

Mr. Pfund marries Irina Maria Hasse and receives a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

1959

Mr. Pfund is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C. and begins service in the Office of the Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State.

1966

Mr. Pfund serves on secondment as an attorney in the legal division of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.

1968

Mr. Pfund returns to the Office of the Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State.

1973

Mr. Pfund serves as a legal adviser for the U.S. Embassy in Bonn, Germany for five years.

1976

Mr. Pfund helps to found and serves on the board of the German American Lawyers Association (DAJV).

1978

Mr. Pfund returns to the Office of the Legal Advisor of the U.S. Department of State.

1979

Mr. Pfund becomes Assistant Legal Adviser for Private International Law in the U.S. Department of State.

1987

Mr. Pfund receives the Leonard J. Theberge Prize for Private International Law from the American Bar Association, Section of International Law and Practice.

1994

Mr. Pfund is as a lecturer of private international law at The Hague Academy of International Law in The Netherlands.

1997

Mr. Pfund retires from Legal in State and becomes a part-time legal counselor for the Office of Children’s Issues in the State Department.

2004

Mr. Pfund retires from the Department of State.
