Dr. Cool receives a Bachelor of Science in biology from Houghton College.
1981
Dr. Cool receives a Master of Science in radiation biology from the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester.
1983
Dr. Cool receives a Doctor of Philosophy in radiation biology from the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester.
1993
Dr. Cool serves as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission representative for the Committee on Radiation Protection and Public Health of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD.
1995
Dr. Cool is appointed Director of the Division of Industrial and Medical Nuclear Safety in the Office of Nuclear Materials Safety and Safeguards of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Cool serves as the United States representative for the Radiation Safety Standards Advisory Committee of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Dr. Cool becomes Senior Adviser for radiation safety and international liaison in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards with the United Stated Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Cool receives the Meritorious Service Award from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Dr. Cool becomes a member of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) Main Commission.

Dr. Cool becomes a Fellow of the Health Physics Society.

Dr. Cool authors “Protections of the Environment Under Different Exposure Situations” and “Radiological Protection in Security Screening,” published in the ICRP Publications 124 and 125, respectively.

Dr. Cool authors “Review of the ICRP System of Protection: The Approach to Existing Exposure Situations,” published in the Annals of the ICRP.

Dr. Cool is appointed co-chair of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, Council Committee 1 in Radiation Protection Recommendations.

Dr. Cool retires from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and joins the Electric Power Research Institute as technical executive of radiation safety.
