1943

Dr. Keenan is born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Charles Edward and Margaret Helen Keenan.

1968

Dr. Keenan receives a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota.

1969

Dr. Keenan begins his career as a family physician at Shakopee Medical Center in Minnesota.

1970

Dr. Keenan is appointed chair of medicine at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

1971

Dr. Keenan is recognized for teaching excellence in coronary care nursing by the St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

1973

Dr. Keenan becomes a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Family Practice and Community Health at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

1975

Dr. Keenan is appointed Chief of Staff at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

1976

Dr. Keenan is certified as a diplomate by the American Board of Family Medicine and becomes chair of surgery at St. Francis Regional Medical Center.

1982

Dr. Keenan is promoted to clinical associate professor at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

1986

Dr. Keenan is promoted to assistant professor at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

1988

Dr. Keenan becomes the director of the geriatrics fellowship at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

1991

Dr. Keenan becomes the director of the graduate education program at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

1993

Dr. Keenan serves as a visiting professor at Ain-Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.

1995

Dr. Keenan receives the Outstanding Service Award from the American Geriatrics Society.

1996

Dr. Keenan is the first family physician to be promoted to full professor with tenure at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota for academic and scholarly activity such as research, grants, and publications.

1997

Dr. Keenan is appointed associate head of the Department of Family Practice and Community Health at the Medical School at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

1998

Dr. Keenan serves as a visiting professor at the Research Center of Preventive Medicine in Moscow, Russia.

2001

Dr. Keenan serves as interim department head of the Department of Family Practice and Community Health at the Medical School at the Medical School at the University of Minnesota.

2008

Dr. Keenan becomes an emergency room physician in multiple hospitals in rural Minnesota.

2017

Dr. Keenan continues consulting and speaking internationally in the areas of his academic research. His work has taken him to places such as Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and China.
