1934

Dr. Van Hoyweghen is born in Temse, Belgium to Hendrik van Hoyweghen and Maria Servotte.

1953

Dr. Van Hoyweghen receives a diploma from Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Presentatie, a secondary school in Sint Niklaas, Belgium.

1954

Dr. Van Hoyweghen joins the international group of medical mission sisters in Holland.

1966

Dr. Van Hoyweghen earns a Doctor of Medicine from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

1971

Dr. Van Hoyweghen completes her surgical residency in New York, New York.

1972

Dr. Van Hoyweghen receives a fellowship from the John L. Madden Surgical Society.

1973

Dr. Van Hoyweghen serves as a general surgeon for the local government in Mwanza, Tanzania.

1975

Dr. Van Hoyweghen receives a fellowship from the American College of Surgeons.

1977

Dr. Van Hoyweghen serves as a general surgeon with Caritas in Juba, South Sudan.

1978

Dr. Van Hoyweghen serves as a general surgeon with Medical Mission Sisters in Attat, Ethiopia and with Terre des Hommes in Serabu, Sierra Leone.

1980

Dr. Van Hoyweghen receives a fellowship from the International College of Surgeons.

1981

Dr. Van Hoyweghen serves as a senior surgeon with the local government in Lilongwe, Malawi and travels to Cape Town, South Africa to help improve the underdeveloped field of pediatric surgery in Malawi.

1992

Dr. Van Hoyweghen serves with the general government and Medical Mission Sisters in Nairobi, Kenya, and she becomes an Elected Sector Africa Coordinator.

1996

Dr. Van Hoyweghen becomes a fellow of the East African College of Surgeons.

2004

Dr. Van Hoyweghen receives a European Masters in Bioethics from University of Louvain in Belgium.

2017

Dr. Van Hoyweghen is honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who.
