Dr. Scofield is born in DeSmet, South Dakota, to Perry Lee Scofield and Zella Scofield.

Dr. Scofield earns a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.

Dr. Scofield becomes an instructor of mechanical engineering at South Dakota State University.
1947
Dr. Scofield joins the faculty at the University of Missouri, where he serves in various professorial positions for more than two decades.
1947
Dr. Scofield marries Nancy Lou Cooney.
1949
Dr. Scofield receives a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri.
1956
Dr. Scofield serves as a consultant for the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake with the United States Navy for 15 years.
1966
Dr. Scofield becomes a science faculty fellow at the University of Oklahoma through the National Science Foundation.
1968
Dr. Scofield earns a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
1969
Dr. Scofield joins Michigan Technology University as head of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Dr. Scofield receives the Alumni Achievement from the University of Missouri (now Missouri University of Science and Technology).

Dr. Scofield serves as president of SAE International.

Dr. Scofield becomes assistant vice president for academic affairs at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Dr. Scofield serves as president of the South Dakota Mines Foundation.

Dr. Scofield becomes Dean of Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Dr. Scofield earns the title of Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Dr. Scofield serves on the board of directors for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.

Dr. Scofield is awarded the Excellence in Engineering Education Award from SAE International.
