Attains a degree in orthopedic surgery from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Serves as a lieutenant commander in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Naval Reserves until 1975.

Marries Barbara Crawford on October 6.

Becomes certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

Becomes a founding member of Wellington Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
