Born to Elwood Carl Lampe and Verna Marcella Lampe in Storm Lake, Iowa.

1962

Graduates cum laude from Buena Vista College with a Bachelor of Arts.

1963

Marries Ruth Elaine Eickstaedt.

1964

Earns a Master of Arts from University Nebraska and teaches as an instructor at Bemidji State College, Bemidji, Minnesota.

1965

Teaches as an instructor at Buena Vista College.

1966

Teaches as an instructor at The University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

1969

Earns a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska

1969

Teaches as an assistant professor at the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Buffalo.

1970

Earns a summer research grant from (SUNY) College at Buffalo.

1973

Teaches as an associate professor at the SUNY College at Buffalo.

1974

Establishes Western New York Medievalists and serves as director.

1976

Teaches as a full professor at the SUNY College at Buffalo.

1978

Receives a National Endowment of the Humanities from Duke University.
