Ms. Kleiner is born in New York, City, New York to Henry Lee Smith, Jr. and Marie Edwards.

Ms. Kleiner marries Scott Alter Kleiner.

Ms. Kleiner receives a Bachelor of Science in sociology and anthropology from Smith College.
1963
Ms. Kleiner becomes a research analyst for Edward Weiss Advertising in Chicago, Illinois.
1969
Ms. Kleiner receives a Master of Arts in Teaching and education from Lynchburg College.
1974
Ms. Kleiner studies postgraduate courses at the University of Georgia.
1976
Ms. Kleiner co-founds the Jeannette Rankin Foundation in Athens, Georgia, where she serves as first president.
1982
Ms. Kleiner becomes an academic adviser at the University of Georgia College of Arts and Sciences (now Franklin College of Arts and Sciences).
1988
Ms. Kleiner becomes assistant director of the Women’s Studies program at the University of Georgia.
2003
Ms. Kleiner becomes a trustee for the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens.

The Institute for Women’s Studies at the University of Georgia names a library room after Ms. Kleiner.
