Mr. Connelly is born in Charlottesville, Virginia to George William Connelly, Sr. and Margaret Mary Connelly.

Mr. Connelly graduates from Maine Township East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois.

Mr. Connelly receives a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northwestern University.
1969
Mr. Connelly joins the U.S. Army Reserve, rising in the ranks to staff sergeant.
1971
Mr. Connelly receives a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Northwestern University and is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois and in the United States Tax Court.

Mr. Connelly becomes a docket attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS in Buffalo, New York.

Mr. Connelly receives the James H. Markham Junior Award from the Office of Chief Counsel of the IRS, identifying him as the outstanding field attorney in the organization that year.
