1944
Dr. Shively is born in Lebanon, Kentucky to Eugene and Virginia Shively.
1962
Dr. Shively receives a diploma from Campbellsville High School, where he served as valedictorian.
1966
Dr. Shively receives a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Louisville.
1970
Dr. Shively receives a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Louisville.
1970
Dr. Shively becomes a rotating intern at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals and Affiliates.
1971
Dr. Shively serves in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon at the USAF Hospital at Forbes Air Force Base in Kansas.
1973
Dr. Shively becomes a resident in general surgery at the University of Louisville.
1976
Dr. Shively is appointed administrative chief resident at the University of Louisville.
1977
Dr. Shively marries Susan Ashley Shaw.
1978
Dr. Shively becomes board certified in general surgery.
1979
Dr. Shively co-authors “Management of the Emergency Right Hemicolectomy,” published in the Journal of Trauma.
1981
Dr. Shively becomes a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
1991
Dr. Shively becomes an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Kentucky.
1994
Dr. Shively becomes a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Louisville.
1998
Dr. Shively is appointed chief of staff at Taylor Regional Hospital in Kentucky.
2003
Dr. Shively becomes a cancer liaison physician in the Cancer Liaison Program for the Commission on Cancer at Taylor Regional Hospital.
2005
Dr. Shively becomes a certified advanced trauma life support instructor.
2010
Dr. Shively joins the clinical faculty of the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine at Pikeville College.
2015
Dr. Shively is presented with the Compassionate Physician Award at the Doctor’s Ball in Louisville, Kentucky.
2018
Dr. Shively is appointed Emeritus Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Louisville.
